Finding Recovery Online

The Internet is full of great resources; it's not just a tool for ordering clothes, checking your emails, or scanning news reports. The internet is a tool that can be a gateway to another facet of the recovery process. Over the past few years the internet has given many individuals access to free recovery resources and will continue to give individuals the opportunity to find recovery resources for years to come.

The internet can not only provide you with information on local support meetings, it can provide you with information for online support groups as well. Try it out, just go to your favorite search engine and type in any of the following terms: support groups, AA meetings, online AA meetings, and online support groups. These are just a few terms to check out, but there are many other options that can be explored. Exploring the online options can open your eyes to a different aspect of support, a type of support that may enrich recovery to a whole other dimension.

The internet can open up many new doors to the recovery process. Online support groups can be beneficial for the individual who lives in an area that has limited meetings, or for the individual that has a hard time leaving their house, or for the individual that is looking for another brick to insert in their recovery foundation.

Searching online for support groups can be a time to pinpoint what other supports would be beneficial, depending on the time in your life and/or the struggles that may be present in your life. Support groups online can come in many varieties. Some online support groups are real time chat rooms, online blogs, or email posts. Involvement in an online support group can add to the range of meetings that you may already have and some groups are even accessible 24 hours a day. The 24 hr groups can come in real handy if cravings occur in the middle of the night and you need a support person to talk to.

Online support groups span across cultures and countries as well. If you have a desire to see how different cultures run their online support groups or if you would like to see if there is a different take on the 12-steps from culture to culture, you have the availability to do so by searching online. The internet has made the way we can access support that much wider and it has added a way to access that support 24 hours a day. Recovery online is always there and you can access it with a click of the mouse.

Spring and Summer activities

Now that the spring is upon us, what are the activities that make us feel good? Taking a long bike ride on a warm spring afternoon with friends is an activity that may appeal to you. Or maybe sitting at your local outdoor cafe and people watching is more appealing. Whatever is more your cup of tea, the time to involve yourself in the outdoor happenings is now.

Just the other day I took my dog for a run around town, and just that simple run turned my day around. Even though the skys were gloomy and it was spitting with rain, the exercise and fresh air lightened my mood and refreshed my mind. What are the things that have similar effects for you? Share and read what others do for themselves. Maybe you'll find something new to do this year.

Music and health

What effect does music have on your health? What kinds of music are better for relaxing, what types are better for exercising? If you are having a stressful day, the sounds of classical music can be very soothing or melodic jazz tunes can center your soul. On the other hand, if you are wanting to pump yourself up for the gym or a running race, maybe some rock music will do the trick.

If you want to listen to a leader in the field of the connection between sound and healing, take a listen to a radio program on One Hour at a Time with host Mary Woods entitled "Steven Halpern: Enhance your Recovery with sound and Music". "Steven Halpern is an award-winning recording artist, composer, producer and pioneering sound healer whose music has helped millions worldwide experience deeper relaxation, manage stress, enhanced yoga, meditation and massage as well as pure listening pleasure. His 1975 debut album "Chakra Suite" created a ‘quiet revolution' and established Halpern as the founding father of a new genre of contemporary instrumental/new age healing music. Steven has produced landmark research exploring the connections between sound, consciousness and healing and is the author of two books, "Tuning the Human Instrument" (1977) and "Sound Health" (Harper & Row, 1985), that introduced the concept of sound healing to the mainstream audience. Treatment options

Where are there quality dual diagnosis treatment programs? There are many treatment options out there, but what constitutes a quality dual diagnosis program? We can no longer treat issues separately, it has to be an integrated approach.
